How Back Bay Boxing has changed since 'The Basement Rat' days?

A number of members recently asked how the gym and our workouts are now different from when we had a gym space pre-pandemic.

It occurred to me that NONE of the members present were members in 'the basement rat' days so I figured I better write a post about it so that when I'm old(er) I can remind myself.

So, here are a few changes you might experience if you were a 'former member' returning to Back Bay Boxing: (This is really important stuff so read on!)

"Intense Cardio' has been scrapped:

That's right! Due to the 'unpopular nature' of cardio we decided to not do it anymore. Why bother? I never liked it anyway! Now all we do is just a quick warm-up and off we go!

All our members are NEW:

Except for 4 members OG's, everyone is new to the gym. It's a great new community of boxing fanatics that hate cardio and burpees.

'Sparring' has been scrapped:

As we don't compete, we don't spar. I always felt when the gym became involved in competitions the 'feel' of the gym changed.

So in order to preserve an inclusive, fun, non-competitive environment, we don't compete in competition anymore.

Also, sparring in the park would be weird and we'd probably have people betting on us so we just don't do it.

The 'Workout' is now more a 'Happy Social Hour':

We discovered that most of our members just want to hangout and punch stuff for a workout rather than try to be the next Olympic Champion. So, that's what we do! A Social Happy Boxing Workout!

Our member-base is still about 80% women:

It always has been 80% women and it's great to have so many women boxing but you've scared all the men away!

If anyone has thoughts on how to get more men boxing...let me know.

So, to summarize what Back Bay Boxing is in one AI generated phrase:

Back Bay Boxing is a Women's Boxing Club with a few token men who just hangout in a Social Fitness Community that has very little to do with Boxing.

The End

P.S: If you're not a member yet, you should be.
