What happens to Back Bay Boxing's Outdoors Classes in the 'colder weather'?

I feel like I should get some kind of 'parenting award' for this post.

OK, so a question that has popped up a lot lately is

'What happens to our Outdoors Classes in the colder weather?'

Here's the official answer: We keep on going!

As an Outdoor Workout we're always at the mercy of the weather. We've dealt with pandemics, heat advisories, air quality advisories, flooding, smoke from wildfires in California and Canada, thunderstorms, inaccurate weather reports, lightning storms and geese sh*tting on us but we're still alive and kicking!

As they say, if you can live through goose sh*t, you can workout in the cold! (As long as it doesn't hit you in the eye or mouth you'll be fine).

Right, where was I...

Our monthly goal has always been to host at least 10 classes per month so that members get the incredible opportunity to experience our classes for about $10 per class or less. Most months we host 10+ classes.

Our membership model is based on a 'Monthly Class Average'.

What does a 'Monthly Class Average' mean?

So many questions...

So for $100/mth we aim to hit 10-15 classes every month.

In the Spring and Summer, we have managed to host 20+ classes per month.

October is looking good and we'll hit the 10+ classes next week.

So over the course of the year the aim is to to hit at least an average of 10 classes per month, even in the Fall and Winter months.

That said, here are my 'parenting tips' for working out outdoors in the colder months:

Don't Forget Your Coat!

Arrive on-time:

Instead of arriving 10-15 minutes early, arrive 5 minutes early, with your hands already wrapped.

On weekends, same idea. Arrive as close to class start time as possible.

If you do arrive early, do a lap or two of the track.

Jog to and from class:

A great way to add in some extra cardio.

I often jog to my private sessions in the cooler months and jog home once they are done.

Wear layers:

If you can, get out of any damp clothes as quickly as possible and get out of the cold.

Don't hang about after class.

The only weather we can't box in is rain or snow so we'll cherry pick the best days to do classes, put the schedule together at the start of the week based on how the weather is looking and modify as needed. Don't panic, we won't be going out in freezing cold weather.

We also have the option of just doing a few bootcamp classes without boxing.

Remember, if people can train for the Boston Marathon in the Boston Winters, we can definitely workout outdoors for 45 minutes.

Also, our Online/Livestream Classes will continue throughout the Winter so there is plenty of boxing in your future :) maybe even some Livestreams from Ireland over the Holidays.

See you in class soon.

You're welcome!
